Heat pump

What are heat pumps?

A heat pumps are HVAC (heating, ventilating and air conditioning) device.
Heat pumps can be used to heat and cool an indoor space. It functions as an air conditioner in the summer and a heater in the winter, delivering filtered air.
An air conditioner draws the heat from the room and releases it into the surrounding area to cool the space. A heat pump uses the same refrigeration cycle as an air conditioner, but in the opposite direction. Rather than releasing heat to the environment, heat is released into the room. With a single device you can cool the house in the summer and warm your rooms during the winter.

What are the benefits of having heat pumps?

A heat pump has a very high efficiency rate since it only uses electricity for power rather than for heat generation. The amount of heat produced by conventional resistive electric heating, such as electric baseboard heaters or space heaters, is proportional to the amount of electricity used.
Since the energy used by a ductless unit is only used to run the two fans (evaporator and condenser), compressor, and pump that concentrate heat outside and carry it into your house, the efficiency rate increases substantially. As a result, when compared to conventional means, heat pumps can provide efficiency rates of more than 300%.

This means lower electricity bills. The cost of running a heat pump is significantly lower compared to traditional systems. If you use a heat pump in addition to your primary heating system, such as gas, oil, coal, or electricity, you can save money on expensive fossil fuels. Heat pumps can also help to reduce your home’s carbon footprint.

What if it gets too cold outside?

Some people are concerned about the heat pumps’ efficiency when it gets really cold, as they warm the home by absorbing heat from the outside. The unit should work fine as long as the refrigerant is colder than the ambient temperature. Our Panasonic ClimaPure XE ductless mini split system can operate down to -26°C (-15°F), and the Bosch MAX Performance systems can provide heating when it’s a freezing -30°C (-22°F) outside.
