How Much Is the Heat Pump Rebate?
The rebate available for an eligible cold-climate air-source heat pump depends primarily on the home’s existing heating source.

For cold-climate air-source heat pumps, the program calculates the incentive using the system’s rated heating capacity at 8.3°C / 47°F, subject to program limits and eligibility requirements.
That distinction matters: the rebate is not simply based on the nominal tonnage printed on the outdoor unit. The approved matched system and its rated heating capacity are what matter.

For contractors, the AHRI matched-system number is important. Eligibility applies to approved equipment combinations rather than simply to the Bosch outdoor unit by itself.
Why Bosch IDS Premium?
The Bosch IDS Premium platform uses inverter-driven heat-pump technology designed to adjust system output as operating conditions change rather than relying solely on traditional fixed-capacity operation.
For Ontario applications, this makes the system particularly relevant for homeowners looking for:
High-efficiency heating and cooling. One system can provide both heating and air conditioning while reducing reliance on conventional heating equipment.
Cold-climate performance. Eligible configurations are designed for cold-climate heat-pump applications, making them suitable for Ontario conditions.
All-electric options. Bosch IDS Premium can be paired with a compatible Bosch air handler for an electric heating and cooling system.
Hybrid options. The heat pump can also be integrated into eligible hybrid configurations using a furnace and matched coil, allowing contractors to design systems around the needs of the home.
No Home Energy Assessment Is Required for This Heat Pump Rebate
One major advantage of this particular Home Renovation Savings stream is that homeowners do not need to complete a home energy assessment before applying for the heat-pump incentive.
However, that does not mean a homeowner can simply purchase an eligible unit and apply afterward.
There is a specific approval process.
Pre-Approval Is Mandatory
This is probably the most important part for contractors and homeowners to understand.
Homeowners must work with a participating HVAC contractor. The contractor submits the required pre-installation application on the homeowner’s behalf, and the application must receive approval before the heat pump is installed.
The program explicitly states that installations completed before pre-approval are not eligible for the rebate.
The basic process is:
- Confirm homeowner and property eligibility through the Home Renovation Savings Program.
- Select a participating HVAC contractor.
- Have the contractor select an eligible matched heat-pump system and submit the pre-installation application.
- Wait for written pre-approval.
- Install the approved equipment.
- Have the contractor submit the post-installation documentation.
- After final approval, the homeowner receives the applicable rebate.
According to the program, after the post-installation application is approved, the rebate cheque should generally arrive by mail within approximately 60 days.
Who Can Qualify?
Program requirements include several conditions. Generally, the applicant must own the home, and the property must meet the program’s residential eligibility requirements.
Eligible heating situations include qualifying homes primarily heated by an Enbridge natural-gas furnace or boiler, or qualifying Ontario homes primarily heated with electricity, oil, propane or wood and connected to the applicable Ontario electricity grid. New homes occupied for six months or less are excluded, and replacement of an existing heat pump used for space heating is generally not eligible under this program stream.
Final eligibility is always determined by the Home Renovation Savings Program.
